79th Reading (Norcot and Kentwood) Scouts
The 79th Reading Scout Group is part of the wider Pang Valley District Scouts. We have been in existence in Tilehurst for many, many years and currently operate from our purpose-built HQ on Armour Hill.
Our main objective is to enable our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to enjoy a varied programme of activities and social events in the best surroundings we can offer.
The group accepts both boys and girls from 6 to 18 years old and at present our membership consists of approximately 200 young people throughout the various sections. We currently have three Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs, two Scout Troops and one Explorer Unit. We also host a Scoutlink section, which caters for children with SEND in the District.
The weekly programmes encourage fun and friendship, challenge and adventure, personal development, citizenship, self-reliance, responsibility and decision-making, involvement and achievement. These elements are developed through activities such as camping, craft, sport, orienteering, pioneering, hiking, cooking, community projects and other adventures.
We like to involve as many parents as possible in our activities and we will always welcome any volunteer, whether it is on a weekly basis with a section or just helping out occasionally behind the scenes.
If you would like to get in touch to find out more about the Group please see the Contact page.
